Download NewTube.

NewTube comes as an APK from GitHub, not from Google Play. The first file is the one for most phones.

Install

  1. Download the file on your phone and open it.
  2. If Android asks, let your browser or file manager install unknown apps, then tap Install.
  3. Open NewTube. Signing in is optional; here's how it works.

NewTube has its own package name, io.github.aleixrodriala.arc, so it installs next to the YouTube app and SmartTube, and none of them can update the others.

Google Play Protect may offer to scan the app, as it does for any app from outside Google Play. On Samsung phones, Auto Blocker (Settings › Security and privacy › Auto Blocker) stops installs from anywhere but the Galaxy Store and Google Play while it is on.

Updates

In the app. NewTube checks its GitHub releases for a new version and offers it. Android installs it over the old one and keeps your account and settings.

With Obtainium. In Obtainium, choose Add app and paste:

https://github.com/aleixrodriala/newtube

By hand. Install a newer APK over the old one. Every release is signed with the same key.

NewTube isn't on F-Droid or Google Play.

Check the file

Since 1.10.3, every APK is built by GitHub Actions from the tagged source, and all of them are signed with the same key. The certificate's SHA-256 is:

2e:f9:9d:76:ed:fa:d9:88:ad:17:cd:ee:8b:a1:8c:63:4e:23:0f:e1:e3:cb:1f:dc:6c:db:02:49:37:0a:36:c9
